Do what you love and don’t buy the line that you should be unhappy just because you have less. It’s baloney!

I’m pretty screwed too, I guess ^^
I’m nearing graduation, and recently it has become increasingly relevant to me that upon graduation, if I get a job, my salary as a junior designer would probably be half of that my brother’s/my peer’s. If I don’t get a job, it’d be considered good if my monthly income was a quarter of theirs.
It’s a trend of the industry I’m in, and the situation of the industry in my country, and it was something I had known before applying for my 4 year degree. There is pressure, and problems will come, indeed, sooner or later – as much as I’d hate to admit it, passion cannot pay bills; but perhaps passion + faith can.
I don’t know. I’m not worried though. I’m content with my present and my outlook for the future; I love what I’m doing, and if that means I’ll have to sacrifice certain luxuries, so be it.
Zecqi, Don’t look at the bleak outlook. Look at where God is leading you. You do awesome stuff! I love your stuff! Keep doing it for love, not because it is going to bring you lots of money! God will open a door that has nothing to do with what the economist say. Cheers!

Wow kinda harsh of Newsweek… It’s sad money is not the secret to happiness but it’s not really fair for me to comment on this. I don’t have monetary concerns.
Still I know the things that make me happy money can’t buy!

As someone who’s been teaching college for the past 25 years or so, (along with a lot of other things) I was SO grateful when I saw your generation come along. The ones who say your generation is in trouble are people who don’t know you or work with you. In the past when I asked students what they wanted to do, they said, “make a lot of money.” For the past five years or so, I haven’t heard that. I’ve heard, help my family, or find a new way to do….., or go work with people who need help…. So all in all, I think you guys are GREAT! You are the ones who will change the world. Thank you. I’m just cheering you on. It’s a big job.

That’s awesome. I’m glad for positive take on this generation. Of course, I’m not a millennial myself. Born in 68. But as a high school teacher, I root for each and every generation!

This how so many people see life–they are using the wrong form of measure. Wealth does not equal happiness, it is the attitude of the heart. Last time I checked, attitude (and I speak of positive) was free 😀 . I think too many spend way too much time trying to categorize people and place them in cubicles, boxes, or whatever. Well said – as a mother to children in your generation I can agree with what you wrote. ” Happiness derives from family, from marriage, from a
satisfying usefulness in life, from a passion pursued”. That was how I was raised and I also tried to instill that in my children, and am proud of their compassion and love for others. Money is not the means to happiness and I like what garden2day wrote how happiness is an attitude of the heart. The next generation does indeed have a good attitude of the heart, that inspires hope for the future. Patty

Wow that’s crazy that they would just write us off that easy. But maybe it’s a good thing. For the first generation since WW2 we might have more opportunity than any other group to reshape our priorities!

It’s so funny the weight we place on material possessions. I have lived in Mexico in some of the poorest communities you can imagine; houses with sticks tied together with string, tin roofs that leaked, dirt floors and children sleeping five and six to a twin size bed…those were some of the happiest children I have ever seen. Playing with an empty coke bottle or a tire rim would elicit laughter from children all around. It would behove us to put more weight in the character of an individual than financial worth. Just my opinion.
Hey Mission! I lived in Guatemala for 16 years and saw some of those scenes! You are so right! The more we have, the more we want, the more unsatisfied we are, the more we feel miserable. We have much to learn!
What a mad world. If people would learn to live the simple life and enjoy it, things would be so much better. There’s a battle between self and it’s reputation, prestige,power..This power battle/money war life style has the older generations failing, miserably.
Life is here to enjoy not be miserable in your 9-5..where you make tons of cash then complain when it’s time to spend it. Money does not buy joy. Thank you God that you are the only one each generation has to please. Thank you God for teaching us to be humble…We have to tell Newsweek, the good news of Jesus Christ. 🙂
