I dunno

The more you think you know, the more prideful you are, the less you will depend on God. Not being a know-it-all, keeps you humble.

When I started ministry in Guatemala, I knew pretty much everything (or so I thought). By the time, I finished 16 years later, I didn’t know hardly anything. I had stubbed my toe more times than I can remember.

When he started playing football for UCLA my pastor, Rob Scribner, fought for a spot on the team. He stayed home, studied his

plays and studied his Bible. He got the spot. In his second year, he studied his plays and his Bible a lot less and spent more time enjoying his “celebrity status.” His game didn’t immediately dive, but it sure didn’t skyrocket like that first year.

He who comes to prayer, desires wisdom and direction from God. At the Lighthouse Church in Santa Monica, we have prayer at 6:00 a.m.

  1. We all learn it the hard way… We have to start the new year praying. We have to start each day praying. We make it so difficult for ourselves to attempt life in our own strength.
    Thanks for the reminder.

The godly offer good counsel; they teach right from wrong.
    Psalm 37:30 (NLT)

That is what you are doing here.

  3. Great thought on the eve of a New Year. God bless you in 2013

  4. This reminds me so much of the passage in the bible when Paul speaks of the “thorn in his side”. Referring to the fact that because it is not removed from him, it keep him humble and mindful of the Lord helping him to face his trial with it.

I know this is a very simplified reference to it, but I have found the same true in my own life. The issues to which we do not have the answers or the solutions are the ones that remind us how much we need a higher power in our daily lives.

  5. Happy New Year Pastor Ashcraft!……..thank you for your support in 2012…….may 2013 be your best year ever as you continue to grow in Christ and seek to walk in His plan and purpose for your life………blessings!……..Kim

  6. Hmm, I have often said that he that knows everything knows nothing. Good point sir. As for me, the reason I study is because the more I learn the more I realize I know very little with much to learn. Thank God I don’t know everything and I am right there with you learning.

  7. Life is full of learning. I thank God for who He is because He will always keep on reminding us to be humble because humility is number one, humility is number two and humility is number three. Lord, give us the grace to show humility even to the least person we You will bring to our lives in Jesus name. Thanks alot for this post.

  8. Another, AHHH, that is so gooood, post. My dad is a teller of jokes – good, bad, ugly! One is about an impatient kid headed off to college frustrated by his father’s ignorance, but who returns from college amazed at how much his father had learned in his absence. 🙂
