His biggest blunder

Don't get out of the path.

Don’t get out of the path.

Without a doubt, Abraham blew it when he tried to “help” God. After not seeing the promise of God fulfilled for more than a decade, Abraham slept with Hagar, his wife’s maidservant, to have the descendant through her.

Oops. Talk about a doozy. Now we can’t have peace in the Middle East as a result. The baby, Ishmael, grew up to fight and cause trouble to the true promised child, Isaac. His 1360711691731572240590805063076419_wYkaoZMI_b descendants, the Arabs, want to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. If only Abraham and Sarah would have had patience…

Herein lies a great lesson for prayer. Hang in there believing for the miracle, and don’t try to “force” the hand of God with an easy, half-baked “answer.” Continue contending for His best, not your compromise.

You can serve God half way, but you won’t get 71494712804052847_GCszxYOs_bcomplete blessing. In all, Abraham and Sarah had to wait 25 years (give or take a few) to see their child born. Abraham was 100, and Sarah, 90. God was faithful. If they hadn’t fallen into desperation, the world would be a better place today. Your world will be a better place, if you don’t get frantic for the answer.

  1. This makes perfect sense! And in this day and age when everyone is afraid of growing old, to me growing old means having more years of opportunity for good things to happen, via God’s work (especially for us awkward late bloomers!) I was praying for something for almost a year now, and God finally provided — in His time, not mine 🙂

I hope I live as long as Sarah and Abraham 🙂

  2. Sometimes Father’s will and time are vastly frustratingly separate!

  3. Thanks that pathway looks so inviting. That little puppy looks like the little Golden, Queen, I gave away because I didn’t feel I had enough love/time to spend with her that she needed. Klove the pup I kept needs just as much. So I hope that time/love comes soon.

  4. I like your post here. It is to the point, we have to have faith that God will answer our prayer. However, as you know, it is either in His time or not at all. But then He has the best plan for our lives. Paitience is a virtue.God bless.

  5. I really enjoyed this post. It reminded me of a Bible study lesson I was in. Often times God says he is going to bless us and because in our natural mind we can’t fathom a supernatural God doing supernatural blessings we move ahead of him. So we then try to “assist him” in our own blessing. He didn’t ask for it;we just move prematurely because we are impatient. That and we forget just how magnificent God is. He didn’t need our “assistance” to create the Heaven and the Earth. This is a perfect example of when trying to help God goes wrong. Thanks for the post.

  6. Great point and message, very timely message for my life! Thank You Pastor!

  7. In an era where everyone is praying for a change… Like Abraham, God is waiting for us to “take down notes” so we can move on… Abraham had to be “fully convinced” before the desired change came… Lovely post!

  8. So many times, I’ve tried to “help” God…it doesn’t work out well. But thank God for His mercy. God bless you for sharing.

  9. Excellent post! excellent

  10. Two of the most significant words in the language: “If only.”

  11. Ah, patient waiting. I used to think I was a patient person, until things didn’t go, I hate to admit, my way. He has and will remind me as needed. 🙂

  12. Hi,Mike: …and don’t try to “force” the hand of God with an easy, half-baked “answer.” At my level of understanding that is a huge truth. Love your blog; love the pictures; love your open and generous spirit. Diane
