Like a motorcycle gang

outlawsRiddle: What’s small but huge?

Answer: prayer.

It is so small that even a child can do it — without much effort. It’s so huge because tectonic plates are moved in the Heavenlies, which we habitually underestimate.

mischief3n-4-webIt’s huge because we make a big stink about how hard it is, like it requires soooooo much effort.

Well, it does require a lot of effort, but not because it’s like looking for the Higgs boson. What’s hard is to push out the raucous crowd of activities that clamor for our attention. For some people, 15 minutes of prayer seems like an eeee-t-e-r-n-i-t-y. For me, it is hard to find over an hour.

Nevertheless, when I do pray, I always savor it, I always marvel at the results.

prayeronbeachI swear I’ll never give it up. But then the next day the disgusting boisterous crowd of leather-clad activities roars in on Harley Davidsons and refuses to be dislodged. Can somebody come over here and clear these ornery thugs out? I need to pray.

Thank you God for filling my hands with things to do for not all the treasures You give come in a box and sparkle.

  2. Why would you want to give it up? Just use it as another tool of ministry my friend, God doesn’t care what vechicle you travel upon, just that where you go, you take Him with you!

  3. It’s amazing how even a small prayer can bring big results! I’ve learned from experience to know that it’s true : )

  4. I need the cleaners too, help! Today I did better than yesterday. Today I prayed during the journey to the restaurant and although the harleys come and go, I managed a few minutes πŸ˜€

  5. Always time for prayers, isn’t there? Even if it’s super short, I’m sure God would rather we gave him a little time than no time at all that day. Obviously the ideal is to have him in our hearts and minds constantly, but sometimes I think just staying in the habit of communicating is worthwhile. Thanks for the post! πŸ˜€

  6. This post is absolutely spot on! It’s amazing how something so simple can be so tough to do. Prayer truly is the littlest thing with the biggest impact!

  7. A much needed reminder πŸ™‚

  8. I can relate! I always feel like I am accomplishing so little, being silly, even, when I pray—even though I know nothing could be further from the truth. Prayer is also huge, though, in what it can accomplish. Like saving lives, for instance. Great post with great parallel imagery! πŸ˜‰

  9. I agree. I was once who did not know how to pray unless I needed something or pray effectively. I learned how to pray and now in the mornings before I leave out the house, I take a minimum of 30min to spend with God through reading the Bible, reading scriptures for the week, faith confessions, and prayer. Praying and speaking great things from the fruit of your lips is powerful and effective.

  10. The best thing is when you start praying, you realize you needed that!! I have been trying to make it a habit to pray more frequently, to get away for a minutes and just enjoy His presence in my life.

  11. Prayer is our quality time with God our Father. One greatness of prayer – sometimes it’s great just to praise Him, giving Him thanks for everything…. or, to just talk with Him as you would an old friend. He is our everything, especially a friend who will never forsake you.

  12. I am so using that riddle asa quote on a scrapbooking layout!
