Why the DMV is such a great place!

Time for prayerBecause the interminable lines give you time to pray.

What you need for prayer is NOT money, nor talent, nor poetic words, nor theological profundity. What you need is time.

And that’s what the Department of Motor Vehicles gives you lots and lots and lots while you wait only to find out that you’re in the wrong line or that you don’t have some obscure piece of paper and you’ll have to come back tomorrow.

Also good for prayer:

  • bank lines
  • mechanic shop
  • dry cleaning lines
  • meetings! (Let the boss drone on about what he thinks is important. In your head, pray.)
  • airports and flights

Distractions to prayerTime-robbers include:

  • cell phone
  • TV
  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • Pinterest
  • Twitter (Why don’t you tweet God instead?)
  • did I say “cell phone?”

These are just some of multitudinous ways of distracting yourself from what is truly important: prayer. Money is not the most precious resource; time is. God really appreciates all the time you make for Him!

  1. Shared this – on Facebook, the best place to share it, IMHO!

    Praising Jesus!

  2. good one – and i thought it was just NJ dmv that gave prayer time – some of those lines are good places to tell others what you have seen and heard with the Father too.

  3. And if we don’t know what to pray for, often people talk loudly enough on their cell phones or to each other that we definitely find good things to intercede and pray about! Thanks for the reminder and also thanks for visiting my blog today! Look forward to following your messages đŸ™‚

  4. That’s a good point…it also got me thinking about evangelism and beginning with small talk with the people next to you. Thanks

  5. For some this is a blessing, but in this case I guess not our DMV never has a line. Yes I live in a very small town. So I have to pray in line at Vons there in always a line there.

  6. My husband says these are always opportunities to share Christ and witness for Him We always carry Bible tracks with us. We choose carefully the ones we use. We do not carry the ones that are going to offend before they read them. Very simple to hand one and say, “here’s something to read, it’s the most important decision you’ll make.” It’s OUR responsibility!

  7. Life is measured in time, and we are called to give our lives for Christ, not for our pleasure.

  8. Mommy says she often prays when she’s waiting at red lights. That’s a good time, right? ppsstt – check out my blog in a bit. I left you something sweet there đŸ™‚ XOXO – Bacon

    • Yes, yes, yes. I was going to see what the pet rock wrote. Wonder if compares to what the Rock Jesus Christ wrote…

      • I’ll have to get with Bashful and see what he says. I know he himself prayed last weekend when mom was driving him around in the Smart car – đŸ™‚ He’s taking one of his gazillion naps right now. Man, that little thing can sleep! XOXO – Bacon

  9. Love this! Check out lines at the grocery stores are always a good place too.

  10. Love this! You’re such an optimist you can find silver linings everywhere! My favorite place to pray is while I am walking my little Lhasa. The fresh air is stimulating and I find myself specifically praying for my blog followers whose challenges touch my heart or for God’s direction. (Yeah, nothing like praying as I’m pickin’ up dog poop – gives new meaning to ‘in all things give thanks’! đŸ™‚

  11. Oh my gosh, this is great, You did forget one big time-robber – blogging. đŸ™‚ I gotta get that one under control.

  12. I needed a laugh! And so true … I’m praying for justice while I blog and the Lord says he hears our prayers.

  13. HAHA I thought South Africa was the only one with this insane queue problem! Very inspiring post xx
