- How do I pray?
- Prayers from the Bible
- Faith
My college roommates were incredulous. How did I, the nerdiest, get the hot girlfriend, while they, suave boys all, had no one to hold their hands in the movie theater?
Twenty years later, my friend Lou rues botany class, where there were gaggles of giggly girls but none would go out on a date with him. Lou’s one of those classy, confidence-full, handsome Latin lovers who usually makes girls swoon. And me? I’m the kind of guy who started yammering about poetry because I’ve run out of other things to say on a date. Today, Dianna is my wife.
It wasn’t the cologne. It was prayer.
After 2-and-a-half clumsy heartbreaks, this knucklehead finally got it. Give up on my own efforts (to get a girl) and let God do the work! I prayed (fresh with breakup bitterness): God, I don’t want to have anything to do with the girls (Actually, I used a vulgar word: chicks). Just drop from Heaven the one that is for me that I one day I’ll open my door and find her. You know, stork-like. Not exactly Elijah faith-praying or Mary submitting admirably to God’s will, but I stumbled upon a key. The first time I saw Dianna, it was on my doorstep. Revenge of the prayer nerd.
So even with something so personal, so private, so nerve-wracking as finding your life’s soulmate, you CAN pray and wait on God. You can ease up on the duds, going to the gym and tanning salon, and rehearsing cool lines to say. Take off the shades, be yourself, and just pray.
How do I pray? What can we learn from prayers from the Bible? Don’t panic, just talk to God. Trust, relax, wait, seek. Enjoy serving God.
I love Lou. He’s a great friend. And I’m praying for him to find a godly girl who will see all the good qualities that are in him. But he needs to pray that too.
It must be a wonderful feeling when you found Dianna on your door step. Happy 4th of July to you and family 😀 I’ll keep praying too! Thanks for the daily reminder.
😀
Aw, great story! I think also important to note that it’s on God’s timeline. For some it may be quick that they find their spouse, for others it may take years of patience and trust. God wants us to be happy, so for some of us it may take a lot of faith while we wait. 🙂
yes. are you married?
This is so sweet:)
thank ya!
She looks 26!
I’ll let her know!
Amen to this! That is precisely how God brought me and my husband together. My husband prayed and stood in faith on Genesis 2:22. He said to God, if you can bring Adam’s wife right to him, you can do the same for me. And boy is God ever so faithful to respond to that kind of heart. 🙂
Praise Him!
awww…tweeet!
So few young people, even Christians, really pray about this. I wish I could say I was doing so when God blessed me so graciously 44 years ago, but God was incredibly good to me anyway!
Praise Him!
God has answered and given you a wife!
“It wasn’t the cologne. It was prayer.”Lol.Amen to this article..The power of prayer!
😀
hehe Revenge of the prayer nerd! Happy 4th!
Praise Him!
You both make a great looking couple!
😀
I needed to read this. Thank you for sharing this and giving us this straight-forward advice. I’m 28 and I’ve been praying regarding this very issue.
Ok, I’ll join you in prayer!
Thanks so much friend!
Friends!
Prayers do amazing things – plus I’m a sucker for a good romantic story! 🙂
😀
It is not about the looks anymore. It is the person’s inner person. Never judge a person base on looks. It can be deceiving. An ugly duckling can be the friendliest person, a prettiest goose can be too cruel. A ugly person can be very kind-hearted. I had to learn that the hard way. God is very mysterious. Be patience! God is always on time.
Love it!
So often, we try to do things in our own strength. If we would only let God be God and trust Him to lead and show us…..my husband and I are married because God lead us, not because of us doing things in our own strength to be with each other.
Praise Him!
Love this post…my son’s 23…I’ve been praying for his future wife since before he was born…such an important life decision must be made by God!! Amen!!
Help him, Jesus!
Thanks for your prayers of agreement!! Amen!!
Yes – pray and get busy letting Jesus live in your everyday life and you will have the life He has for you – whether that includes just the right guy, the right girl or the right singleness – it’s the Jesus part that brings the joy and satisfaction.
so nice
With prayers, we can achieve that which God has designed for us. Thanks for liking my post, ”Having the crown of life”. I appreciate!
Praise God!
Amen. 😉
pray! 😀
HI!
I opened the door at my friends house and this guy was standing there. 50 years ago on Friday (in 1963) we got engaged. In 1965 we will be married 50 years. Great believer in prayer. Many prayers answered. Some didn’t. The good with the bad. Can’t have everything. As long as there’s love anything else is a bonus Love C
Great story. Reminds me of my own. But I am on year 23! Keep up the good work for Jesus!
Lovely story and you are so right! Prayer is the key to so many doors opening and the one to your heart got opened and there she was! By the way, you are both attractive and fit together so well. This is a very special blessing and reminder to me, wait, be patient and pray!
😀
I am smiling back at you, too! Your family is very nice looking and you are not ugly. I am going to say a Christian comment, No one is ugly in God’s eyes!
😃
