Showing off

showing offIn our through-the-Bible survey of sin, we come to the very interesting case of King Hezekiah, who simply showed off his riches.

Immediately after flaunting his treasures, the Prophet Isaiah came to him with an ominous message: The time will surely come when everything in your palace, and all that your predecessors have stored up until this day, will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the LORD. — 2 Kings 20:17 NIV.

When I was a missionary in Guatemala, no one would ever flash their riches. If they did, criminals would strike.

We humans show off our cars, beauty, muscles, figure, clothes, watches, fans, likes, basketball skills, manliness… What do we NOT show off? Christians even show off their righteousness in the church.

It’s pride rubbish.

While showing off might bring you a perverse joy of provoking others to envy, it can bring no real good. It corrupts our heart.

We should accept people and love people. We should never be boastful in our actions.

  1. Thank you my friend for this awesome and excellent message. You are very right, christians show off righteousness even without knowing. I pray that God should always have mercy on us in all our ignorance. More of His blessings to you, family and ministry in the name of Jesus Christ.

  2. Oh wow I just wrote something about this today!!!
Can you believe that what are the odds.

  3. Excellent post. I must admit that sometimes I fail in this area at times. Not about things, but sometimes about knowledge and experiences. Thanks for the reminder and God bless

  4. This is so true, even at church, when you ask someone how long they been a Christian, they would try to make you believe you couldn’t possibly be an experienced Christian. They will proudly say I been a Christian for 15 years, ten years, five years, but how many have been following the gospel correctly. There are no such good Christians all have fallen short in the eyes of god. What people sometimes fail to believe, you can have a long term christian who have adapted old practices and new christian who is walking the right path.
It’s also true about money and possession. Some people don’t realize we are all just a passing spirit, and will all be poor at death. Great post by the way.

  5. Humility always count. Jesus did not boast about His powers but He humbles Himself so that his followers will also be humble. 🙂

  6. Lord teach me humility so your grace in me increases everyday. let self-righteousness and false humility go in Jesus name.
