Hoarders of bad memories

Some people hoard newspapers and trash. They just can’t decide what to throw out so they don’t throw out anything. Their house becomes a trash dump.

Others hoard hurtful memories. These endanger us of turning bitter, grudging, inward, suspicious or anti-social. Everyone needs a sewage system connected to the heart to flush out the wrongs suffered, else we lose the joy of each day.

This is why Jesus urges his followers to forgive. From the cross, in excruciating pain, Jesus forgave his crucifiers. It is the model for us.

  1. We do have to learn how to let go of these things.

  2. It is impossible to overstate the importance of forgiveness, both on the spiritual level and psychologically.

  3. Oh, amen to this post! Forgiveness is vital for our own self preservation. Unforgiveness is like lugging around a bag of rocks that don’t even belong to us. Set that burden down!

  4. Short and sweet! I like it! Forgiveness is key!

Amen…great message. We are instructed to cast down those vain imaginations and bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ in 2 Corinthians 10:5 …. In other words stop hoarding and holding onto those negative thoughts. Stop that “stinkin thinkin” because they aren’t from God, but from the enemy and he delights in stealing your joy! Rise Up!! Think on the good and pleasant things. …
    God bless you!

  7. A simple, profound truth presented in unforgettable words. Thank you! Sharing this.

  8. After a separation and divorce – almost 10 years ago! – I started saving receipts, bills, and other ‘proof’ my lawyer wanted. Now I have an awful habit of saving papers and a terrible aversion to reading & sorting them. The painful past rushes back whenever I look at them. I am sorting through paper garbage whenever I try to find something good I truly need. Only recently have I been able to toss out stacks of papers as part of my searching/sorting process. I have been meditating on Jesus asking followers to leave everything and follow him.
